The Town of Bar Harbor, (5,235 pop.) is seeking experienced candidates to fill the position of Town Assessor overseeing 3,500 tax parcels.
The preferred candidate shall be a Certified Maine Assessor with at least four years’ experience in municipal work. Candidate should have thorough and broad knowledge of real estate appraisal principles, techniques, procedures, laws and regulations. Experience with Vision and Munis software is desirable as well as GIS/ESRI software and mapping principles. Qualified candidates must possess a valid State of Maine driver’s license.
The essential duties of this position include: inspect and assess all categories of the commercial, residential and personal property as well as maintaining such data on the Town’s website. The position supervises a deputy and both interact with the public explaining the tax process, responds to all abatement requests, maintains current records regarding ownership and extent of taxation, maintains property tax/LUZO maps, coordinates all State filings for exemptions, annual audits, BETR/BETE programs, etc. The Town Assessor also appears before the Board of Assessment Review to defend assessments.
