Public Hearings 8/16 on LUO Amendments, Citizens' Petitions

The Bar Harbor Town Council will hold public hearings Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Building Council Chambers to receive public comment on one Town Council-initiated Land Use Ordinance amendment proposal and two citizens' petitions.

  • LAND USE ORDINANCE AMENDMENT - Removal of the Two-thirds Majority Vote Requirement to Amend the Land Use Ordinance. This amendment provides that a simple majority vote at Town Meeting is required to adopt a proposed amendment to the Land Use Ordinance, regardless of whether or not the Planning Board votes to recommend the amendment. This is a Town Council-requested LUO amendment.
  • CITIZENS’ PETITION LAND USE ORDINANCE AMENDMENT – Marijuana Stores. This amendment would add retail marijuana stores as an allowed use in the Downtown Village I, Downtown Village II, Bar Harbor Gateway, Downtown Village Transitional, and Shoreland General Development III districts.
  • CITIZENS’ PETITION - Adult Use Marijuana Store Licensing Ordinance. This proposed licensing ordinance was submitted in conjunction with the LUO Amendment petition adding retail marijuana stores as an allowed use.

All the proposed ordinance amendments can be viewed under "Town Questions Headed to the November 2022 Ballot" on the Elections-November page.
