The Senior Taxpayer Assistance Program provides property tax relief to low-income senior citizens who live in the Town of Bar Harbor. To qualify, applicants must be 65 years of age or older and have lived in Bar Harbor for 5 consecutive years. Applicants must also have been approved to receive a Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit for the 2021 income tax year prior to the application. The application deadline is December 1, 2022. If you do not qualify or did not receive a rebate under the State program, you will not be eligible for the Town of Bar Harbor Senior Taxpayer Assistance Program. View application. 

Application instructions are below:

  1. Fully complete the program application with information release form, and Landlord and Rent Payment confirmation form (if applicable) included with this packet.
  2. Attach a signed copy of your 2021 Form 1040ME, including Schedule PTFC (Property Tax Fairness Credit).

     4. Application deadline is December 1, 2022. You must complete an application annually to participate in the program. Program is subject to Council approval on a yearly basis.   You must receive the State Property Tax Fairness Credit for the previous tax year to be eligible for the Town of Bar Harbor program.
