The primary responsibility of the Highway Foreman position is to schedule and supervise work details in the construction and repair of public roadways, sidewalks, storm water infrastructure, buildings, grounds, parks, playgrounds, comfort stations, cemeteries, and the plowing and removal of snow. The Highway Foreman is responsible to manage one or two crews to complete weekly assignments as instructed by the Highway Superintendent.
This position regularly interacts with the public and works with other Town departments to assist the Town to meet service objectives. Proven leadership, customer service focus and strong communication skills are a must. Additionally, the successful candidate participates in defining short-term and long-term maintenance projects and shall be knowledgeable in means and methods of condition assessment for highway infrastructure (roads, sidewalks).
The minimum qualifications for this position include: High School graduate, a valid State of Maine Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL); five years’ experience in the construction or related industry; familiarity with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety regulations that are associated with the construction industry; five years’ of demonstrated leadership skills and abilities; and demonstrated planning, organizing, motivational and management skills.
