Annual Open Town Meeting: Votes on municipal and school budgets
This is the first portion of the Annual Town Meeting, where the school and municipal budgets will be voted on. The meeting continues Tuesday, June 10 with the Town Election of officers and all warrant articles designated for the secret ballot portion of the meeting.

Town Election: Election of officers, votes on Land Use Ordinance Amendments
Poll Hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The following offices will be elected by the voters at the June 9, 2026 Town Election:
- Bar Harbor Town Council Three seats – Three-year term
- Superintending School Committee Two seats – Three-year term
- MDI High School Trustee One seat – Three-year term
- Warrant Committee Five seats – Three-year term and two seats - One-year term
Nomination papers are available in the Town Clerk’s office beginning Monday, March 2. Deadline for filing nomination papers with the Town Clerk is Friday, April 10, 2026 at 5:00 pm. Call 207-288-4098 for more information.
Write-in candidates: Any qualified resident interested in being considered a write-in candidate for the town election must file a declaration of write-in candidacy with the Town Clerk on or before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4. The candidate must meet all the other qualifications for the office, and must receive a minimum of 25 votes to be elected.
The Town Election is a continuation of the Annual Town Meeting, which adjourns when the election results are announced. The warrant for the meeting includes information about any local ballot questions.

Ways to Request an Absentee Ballot
Applications for absentee ballots are available two months before the election (early April). The ballots themselves will be available in early May.
- By mail: Download the application and mail to Town Clerk's Office, 93 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
- By phone (voter may request for self only): call 207-288-4098.
- In person in the Town Clerk's office (voter may request for self and/or immediate family members).
- Online absentee ballot request service.
