Building Codes

The Town Bar Harbor has adopted The Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC), the 2023 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code (IAPMO) and the 2018 National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code (NFPA 101).

Inspections and site visits are scheduled during normal operation hours; at least 48-hours’ notice is appreciated.

Whats New

EFFECTIVE APRIL 7, 2025 - The Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC) will update to the following codes and standards:

  • 2021 International Residential Code (IRC)
  • 2021 International Building Code (IBC)
  • 2021 International Existing Building Code (IEBC)
  • 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
  • 2021 International Mechanical Code (IMC)
  • 2019 ASHRAE 62.1 (Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality)
  • 2019 ASHRAE 62.2 (Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Low-Rise Residential Buildings)
  • 2019 ASHRAE 90.1 (Energy Standard for Buildings except Low-Rise Residential Buildings) editions without addenda.
  • American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) E-1465-2008, Standard Practice for Radon Control Options for the Design and Construction of New Low-Rise Residential Buildings.
